⛴️ Maritime Data Challenge: Unlock the Power of Ship Sensor Data!

👨💻   Modern vessels generate huge amounts of sensor data - but how can it be used to support bridge crews?

🎓 BSH invites developers, researchers, start-ups & companies to tackle this challenge:

🖍️ Your task: Build a proof-of-concept application or tool combining optical & navigational sensor data.

Focus areas:

👉 Integrate and sync RGB, IR, GNSS, IMU, SBES data

👉 Detect and locate uncharted objects

👉 Avoid duplicate detections

👉 Design intuitive HMIs for navigators or remote operators

👉 Optional: visualize on electronic nautical charts

Support you’ll get:

👉 Access to up-to-date datasets from the German Bight

👉 Guidance from experts in science, industry & government

💡 Why join:

👉 Top 3 teams present at the 3rd expert conference on waterways & ports (June 2026)

👉 Boost visibility in the maritime innovation community

👉 Help improve safety & standards in autonomous navigation Be part & show what becomes possible when technology and maritime expertise come together!

The maritime data collection is scheduled for March. The intended dataset will likely contain recordings from various ship equipment such as night vision cameras, gyrocompasses, GNSS, AIS, echo sounders, weather stations or stereo cameras.

The data will be submitted without labelling start of April 2026.

The date to submit your proposal incorporating this provided data is 25 May 2026.
