6 questions about the maritime sector and the German flag

The large versatility of the work and life on board in conjunction with getting to know many countries and cultures. Hardly any other work place is as varied.

My father and my brother went to sea. This directed me to the studies Marine electronic engineering/radiocommunication services. Back then, radio operators were still needed. After my first voyage during my semester break, I was certain that I wanted to work at sea.

Everyone should thoroughly inform themselves about work at sea and the professional paths available. The best way to take a peek is the holiday program of the shipowners' association VDR or an internship on board.

I inform interested people about all training and career options, but will always warmly recommend to start their work at sea with the well-founded apprenticeship as ships' mechanic. It teaches seafaring from scratch and gives them three years to figure out in which direction the career should be headed.

My work revolves around placing people in contributory employment, i.e. placement of seafarers, and those that want to become seafarers, under German conditions (employment and training relationships that are subject to social insurance contributions).

High quality training of a maritime workforce and assurance of work places that are subject to social insurance contributions.

It is essential for maintaining work and training places.
